Liner Notes for DIRTY DIAMONDS (downloadable version)

2022

These are songs that I began writing as early as 1990, but they've been developed slowly over the years, put on the back burner, moved back up, forgotten, remembered, recorded, and re-recorded. At age 50, it finally occurred to me that I was not going to be able to record all these songs with high production quality due to lack of money, time, talent, etc. So here they are in the best form I could get ‘em, with the exception of "Ode to Testosterone" and "Angels Never Die," which were recorded in professional studio settings.

All songs written and arranged by B.T. Johnson, except “Easy Does It” written and arranged by G.M. Frichter.

All songs produced by B.T. Johnson with exception of the following: “Easy Does It” produced by G.M. Frichter; “Young Girls” and “Rockin’ You” produced by Jesse Deese. Songs that sound good were either engineered by Reg Furlough ("Angels" & "Testosterone") or George (“Shoulda") or Jesse (“YG” “RY”). The rest were engineered by Yours Truly.

All noises made by me with the following exceptions:

Some drum parts are just my drum machine’s pre-programmed settings or variations thereof (if it sounds perfect, it’s a computer program; if there are micro- or macro- mistakes, it’s me playing), and…

“Easy Does It” - George Frichter- guitar, and…

“Young Girls” and “Rockin’ You” - Jesse Deese and his talented musician friends whose names have sadly faded from my memory- Jamie? Policeman Dan? Carl? They played all the instruments; I just sang, and…

"Angels Never Die”- Reg Furlough on keyboard, and…

Harmonica solo on “Can’t Sing the Blues” played by Liam Ward, and…

Backing vocals on “Kid In a Candy Store” by Becca Bradley.

All recordings done at Beggar’s Choice Studios, Tallahassee, FL, somewhere between 1996-2021, except:

“Young Girls” and “Rockin’ You” recorded at a little home studio somewhere in Lee County, AL (near Opelika), and

“I Shoulda Seen" and “Easy Does It” recorded (2002-ish?) at Little Green Frog Studio in Tallahassee, FL… and

"Angels Never Die” and "Ode to Testosterone” recorded at Artistic Recording Studio in Tallahassee, FL… and

Becca and Liam did their parts wherever they did them.
